WHAT IS A NEPOPO® DOG TRAINING SYSTEM?
NePoPo® is a negative-positive-positive dog training system where the dog learns to do, on cue, with Heart & Soul. And when the dog knows the behavior and gets that inevitable correction, instead of being demotivated, the dog comes back better than ever.
SPONTANEOUS DOG BEHAVIOR VS. TRAINED
- Have you ever noticed a dog pick up his food bowl, all happy - eyes burning like cigarettes, tail wagging, ears up and forward and bring it to you to fill, but when you try to get him to pick up something in a training session, he won’t touch the item you want him to take?
- Or a dog sniffing while on a walk with such intensity that you can’t pull him away from the smells! But when you try to train him in scent work, he acts like he doesn’t have a nose.
FIRST WE HAVE TO ASK WHY DOES A DOG DO?
- Why is it that when it’s his invention, he does it with passion, but when you want him to do the same thing, he thinks it’s torture?
- A dog behaves to better his situation, not because you are his owner or handler, and he loves you.
- He does this because he sees an advantage in the behavior.
HOW DOES A DOG BETTER HIS OWN SITUATION?
- Thru Positive Reinforcement (PoPo),
- Negative Reinforcement (NePo), and
- Negative Positive Positive Reinforcement, NePoPo®
- When we like the behavior, and we know the dog knows the behavior, then we can apply it.
- Corrections (tells the dog to stop fooling around and do the one thing I told you to do)
- Or aversives (tells the dog not to do that one thing and do anything else) for when we don’t want the behavior to repeat.
TWO SYSTEMS USED IN NEPOPO®
- Operant conditioning starts with spontaneous behavior. If we like the behavior, we encourage it with PoPo, NePo, and NePoPo®. And if we don’t like the behavior, we can ignore it or discourage it with corrections and aversives.
- We put behaviors on command using Classical Conditioning, one new signal taking the place of a well-known signal.

Elements of PuppyFoundation Training
Potty training
Your puppy will learn to go potty in the right place, reducing messes in your home and stress for you and your family.
Potty training builds trust between you and your puppy and helps you create a clean and pleasant living environment.
Crate training
Your puppy will learn to feel safe in their crate, which can help prevent separation anxiety and make it easier to transport your puppy. Crate training provides your puppy a comforting, secure space to rest and retreat. It also gives you peace of mind knowing that your puppy is safe while you are away from home.
Habituation
A relaxed and confident puppy comfortable with various situations and environments. Habituation will help your puppy become more adaptable and secure when faced with new experiences. This will strengthen the bond between you and your puppy and reduce the chances of negative behaviors.
Socialization
Your puppy will feel comfortable and friendly around people, other animals, and different situations. Socialization helps your puppy develop positive and healthy ways of interacting with other dogs and humans. This will strengthen your relationship with your puppy and make it easier for you to integrate the puppy into your lifestyle.
Environmental exposure
Your puppy will learn to adjust to unfamiliar places and sounds, which can help prevent anxiety and fear of new experiences. Environmental exposure will help your puppy feel more comfortable in different environments, making outings and everyday experiences less stressful for your puppy and you
Grooming:
Your puppy will learn to enjoy grooming which can enhance your relationship and make grooming more straightforward and quicker. Regular grooming and handling will help prevent potential health issues by identifying and fixing problems early. Grooming can also improve the bond between you and your puppy.

Your puppy will learn to associate the clicker's sound with rewards and positive behavior. The clicker will become an essential tool for training and communicating with your puppy, making training easier, faster, and more efficient.
Box work:
Your puppy will learn to be calm and focused even in stressful situations. Box work will teach your puppy to be patient and focused in unfamiliar and possibly challenging conditions.
Treat and train with the target:
Your puppy will learn to focus and follow the target, making training more effective. This training will stimulate your puppy's mind and attention and build the puppy's focus on you.
Tactile positions - sit, down, stand:
Your puppy will learn basic cues for better communication and obedience. Tactile positions allow you to communicate with your puppy more effectively and positively, strengthening your bond and trust.
Proprioception:
Your puppy will develop better control over their body, resulting in better balance and coordination. Proprioception exercises will help build your puppy's muscles and prevent potential injuries leading to better health and independence.
Teach the puppy its name:

Auto-Focus (watch you, without words
Your puppy will learn to automatically focus on you without saying a word. "Auto-focus" training will help your puppy become more obedient and independent.
Come:
Your puppy will learn to come to you when called.
