(Nearly 21 years of dog training experience) CERTIFICATIONS, Memberships, Dog Training Education:
I love working with puppies; this is some of my most rewarding work. I also look forward to helping service dogs, particularly those who may have developed behaviors that make it difficult for them to task for the handler. Seeing these dogs make progress and build confidence is incredibly fulfilling for me.
I specialize in addressing tasks for the dog to perform that mitigate a disability for the handler and public access training. For example, I have experience helping dogs with jumping, barking, chewing, and pulling leashes. I also enjoy working with dogs who are generally well-behaved but need a bit of fine-tuning to reach their full potential.
While I am confident in my ability to train and work with various dogs and behaviors, there are situations that I may need to be a better fit for. For example, I am not a sport or protection dog trainer, so I would not be best for preparing dogs for igp, psa, or search and rescue. I am a service dog trainer, so I would be the best choice for clients who need a service dog. Additionally, I may not be the best fit for purely positive reinforcement-based training clients. I believe in using various training tools and methods to achieve the best results for each dog.
Overall, my experience working with a wide range of dogs and behaviors allows me to provide practical, customized training solutions based on a relationship built on trust, respect, and success.
Based on my experience working with dog training clients, what they want most is a dog that is well-behaved, obedient, and easy to manage in a variety of situations. Many of my clients struggle with behaviors that make it difficult to enjoy their time with their dogs or even have a calm, peaceful home environment.
Here are some common concerns and goals that my clients have expressed:
- "I just want my dog to listen to me." Many clients come to me feeling frustrated and helpless because their dog seems to ignore them or only listen when it's convenient. They want to be able to give commands and have their dog obey them consistently.
- "I want my dog to stop jumping on people." Whether at home or out in public, many clients struggle with a dog who is overly exuberant and impolite with their greetings and want a dog who can politely greet visitors without jumping on them.
- "I'm scared my dog will run away." For clients who live in more rural areas or who enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and camping, having a dog who will reliably come back when called can be a significant concern. They want a dog they can trust to stay with them and return if they get off-leash.
- "My dog is aggressive towards other dogs/people." Whether it's due to fear or territorial instincts, some dogs may display aggression towards other dogs or people. Clients dealing with this issue often feel anxious about taking their dogs out in public or having visitors over. They ultimately want a dog who is friendly and accepting of others.
- "I just want to enjoy my dog." Many of my clients want a well-behaved dog that is easy to manage so they can enjoy spending time with them. They don't want to feel like their dog is a constant source of stress or frustration.
My clients seek guidance and support in fostering a strong, positive relationship with their dogs. By helping them address challenging behaviors and build a foundation of trust and communication with their dog, I can help them reach their goals and a relationship built on trust, respect, and success.
My ideal clients need my help because their dog's behavior significantly impacts their daily lives. Many of them are struggling with dogs who display a variety of challenging behaviors such as aggression, disobedience, anxiety, or hyperactivity. These behaviors can cause fights, chaos, and constant stress in their homes, leading to a lack of peace that affects their whole family.
The ripple effects of their dog's behavior can be significant. Many clients have told me they struggle to have visitors over or leave their dogs alone at home because they fear their dog will destroy their belongings or hurt themselves. Some have mentioned that they cannot enjoy outdoor activities like walking their dog or going to the park because their dog's behavior is unpredictable and embarrassing.
Clients often fear that if their dog's behaviors continue, they will have to give them up or put them down. They fear that their dog will never be able to get along with other dogs or people or that their dog will harm someone. They worry they will regret getting a dog and cannot provide their furry friend the love and support they need.
Most of my clients have tried to train their dogs but have failed. They've researched online and read books, but nothing seems to work, and they've reached a point where they feel helpless and defeated. They want a professional who can work with them and their dog to create a personalized training plan to address their specific needs and help them achieve their goals.
